Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) was known as CP Rail and simply Canadian Pacific between 1968 and 1996. The historic Canadian Class I railway was established in 1881. Canadian Pacific Railway Limited began operations in 2001 as the legal owner in a corporate restructuring.
The railway company which is headquartered in Calgary, has approximately 20,100 kilometers (12,500 miles) of rail that can travel across seven Canadian provinces and the United States from Saint John, New Brunswick to Vancouver and Edmonton.
The railroad was established between eastern Canada and British Columbia between 1881 and 1885. This railway was built by connecting the Ottawa Valley and Georgian Bay area lines built before that.
